Kumho tires?

I'm shopping for tires for our 2004 Chrysler Pacifica AWD. I'm very budget conscious right now so I'm looking for a good value and not necessarily the greatest tires money can buy. My first instinct was to go with Yokohama Avids as I have a set of those on my Buick Regal and they have been excellent and were reasonably priced. I've put a ton of miles on them and they are still in great shape with the best wet traction I've had from tires.

So I went on Tirerack.com to shop for tires and I'm seeing these Kumhos. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...ed_rating=Y&speed_rating=(Y)&minSpeedRating=T

They are the cheapest they have in my size but the reviews are fantastic. I'm skeptical, anyone have any experience with them? They have a ridiculously long tread life warranty.

I had a set of Kumos on my last car (Dodge Neon) they werent that model, but the tires lasted 40k miles, rode great and were good in the snow and rain. I would gladly put another set of kumos on any car.

The company itself has been around for almost 50 years. They have been highly rated by JD Powers for quality and are the 9th largest tire maker in the world.
I believe next year kumhos will be standard issue on the Ford Focus.
They make a good tire at a reasonalble price.

Re: Kumho tires?

I have the Kumho Solus tires on my chevy astro and jeep cherokee. I'm really happy with how they are wearing, I have 20k miles on the set on the van (alot of gravel, and off road driving also) they don't show hardly any wear yet. They performed good last winter in the ice and snow. The ride is really good, very quite on the highway. I think they are a good tire, and a really good deal. I've purchased 4 sets of tires from Tire Rack, I've been happy with their service. I mount and balance my own tires, so it's an even better deal for me, since I don't have to pay to have them mounted. All in all, I think those kumho tires are a pretty good buy.

Thanks everyone, especially guy74 since you are running them on similar heavy vehicles and ordered them from Tire Rack as I'm going to do. I'm going to order them. I have a guy who says he'll mount them for me for $10 a tire.

Re: Kumho tires?

I read tire rack's web site but..... I kind of like to keep my business local.

I have been in this area about 21 years and have a great relationship with a local tire dealer. I have always been satisfied and get great service too.

Kumho is a good tire..... have you looked for a local distributor? I would just give the local people a chance to get close to the tire rack price and if it cost me just a few dollars more I would do it.

I am not trying to cause an arguement but I am very big on keeping our dollars local. I think we are all watching our pennies.

I agree with Bob's statment about keeping our money local, but for me the closest tire dealer is 20 miles away, couldn't come within $20 of tirerack's price (even on a carryout basis), and it's a hassle to get to the shop during business hours. Just easier for me to have them setting on the porch, and put them on when I have the time. If I had a local tire man, I'df sure give them a shot first. (BTW the ones on the cherokee came from a local dealer(25 miles away), but it cost me $20 more a tire than I could've gotten them shipped to my door from tirerack, thats $80 I could've used elsewhere)

Re: Kumho tires?

Tire rack rocks! I used to autocross a 240 z back in the 80's and they were the first tire dealer I ordered from. They carried a Pirelli tire I just could not find anywhere, and I was living in Tampa at the time.
The price was right and they shipped quickly. I was also able to order an older pattern Michelin for the TR-3 years ago as well. Again, good price and good transaction.

Re: Kumho tires?

I've had Michelins for the last 20 yrs...not because they're econonical, but because I work for the company. :) And they're comfortable to ride on. My Dad bought a new Chrysler with Kumho's (sp) on it, and it is noisier than he**. Nice car and all, but the 16 in. tyres were noisy. As in all tyres, Kumho had a recall a short time ago. You should check this out, but it probably won't apply to you...but you never know.
Its a funny thing, though, with all the bi**ching about China running roughshod over American and Canadian manufacturing, maybe it would be time to look into GoodYear, Firestone, or even Michelin. Chinese tyres will be as good as ours, one day, maybe...Michelin has 7 Plants in the US, GoodYear and Firestone..a whole lot more. Times are tough, I realize that, but we have to start somewhere, at somepoint in our time. I'm really not crapping on your choice of tyres, its the situation that dictates choice.

Re: Kumho tires?

Well guys it ended up not mattering. The Kumhos on TireRack ended up going out of stock and I needed them now. Nobody local stocks them. My inspection was out TODAY. So yesterday I ended up have some very nice Dunlop GrandTrek AT20's installed. They have deep tread and ride awesome. Of course they cost me a pant-load more. Oh well.
