l-drive lower unit

does anyone know if I can use an outboard lower unit to replace my blown l-drive lower

Yes you can, however, the splines for the attachment of the drive shaft need to match. Count the number of splines on your current lower unit and make sure the replacement has the same number of splines.

They started putting in the 2 piece shaft in the gear housing in late 89 through 93 maybe 94.
They made some changes so make sure the parts match.
The gearing is different for the 85/90 and the 125/120

thanks can the shift rod be threaded out of a outboard lower and threaded into the ldrive lower
