L drive???

probably a dumb question but what the heck is an L drive?saw a post a few days ago about a 120 Force that <br />had this & everyone seemed to agree it was a bad thing.which years did the 120 force use this?

metalmessiah,<br /><br />The "L" drive was a power unit put together by Bayliner and Mercury Marine/Force.<br /><br />It incorporates a Force powerhead sitting vertically atop a lower unit very similar to an I/O lower unit. It required a specially designed transom configuration.<br /><br />It would tilt up like an I/O yet was limited in tilt range, like an I/O.<br /><br />Basically all it did was put the outboard powerhead, inside the boat instead of hanging off on the transom.

thanks, that cleared it up for me.definitely not what I have on my Astro.
