What the heck could be a fun read for some...{hope this section is ok for this}

Many moons ago my eyes became blurry, not from excess hops and barley but more from age. Anyways, trying to keep my 'cool' status :p, I proceeded to buy the best{$$$} frames{eye glasses} at the time, added the bells & whistles such as scratch proofing, transitional tinting etc etc. So two days later out on the boat doing some fishing, when this bug flies in between the glasses and my face, first reaction...swipe at it with my hand, yep, you got it..straight into the drink they{the glasses} went. This was on lake St Clair{Michigan side} back before the zebra mussels cleared it up...no chance in 'el of finding them. over $600.oo gone just like that with no insurance to boot.

Lets see, a few other 'mishaps'...the usual friend dropping one of my rod & reels overboard{not once but twice, on back to back trips...his last btw lol}. Back in the day when I used a metal basket over the side for a livewell of sorts, I lost one or two by forgetting to retrieve them before blasting off towards another hot-spot, and of course they "always" had such a once in a lifetime catch in them ;)

So lets hear what gifts you've given to the water gods...hilarious, heartbreaking or other-wise

PS: sorry if this has been done before, couldn't find anything in my quick searching around.

I lost my hat when the wife was driving over the weekend (gotta remember to turn it backwards before taking off...), but we turned around and found it before it sunk.

A few weeks ago I watched a friend drop his sunglasses in, reach to grab them as they were falling, then slip on a wet swim deck, and then follow them right into the water. That was funny. He didnt laugh...

Interesting topic HSF!

I was fighting a yellowfin tuna in Mexican waters out of San Diego while wearing my Ray-bans that my GF at the time had bought me not 2 days before..She said I should get the "leash" so I dont loose em overboard.

Ya, I didnt and they did in fact slide off my sweaty face, bounce off my stick and "bloop" (you know that sound) into the Pacific...

Whenever I would see the Starkist tuna commercials, I'd say That so & so has my Ray-Bans!!

I did have a Shimano baitcaster with matching stick go over the side...
I took my nephew (10 at the time) out on my usual Sunday morning 1/2 day trip out of Redondo Beach...
We were fishing shallow for bass, so I let him use it...
A stray Bonito came through and yep, took the rig right outta his hands...
Oh man I tried not to have a cow..but he knew I was PO'd...

About 15 minutes later, this other guy hooks into something not bass-like by the way the fish acted...brings it to color and we see my Shimano rig still hooked to him!!
The guy gets the fish over the rail and I got the Shimano back!

Ahhh, the glasses thing. Last time oops! and I were out on the lake, It was very warm out and I decided to take a run and leap off the back of the bilgeliner to cool off. I lept from the drivers seat hopped up on the transom and with a mighty shove I was airborne headed for the refreshing cool water. Then it hit me, :eek: I never took off my damned glasses. Its amazing how things can sometimes slow down in an emergency situation,much like a car crash in slow motion. My mind was racing to add up the cost and the time it would take to get new lenses ground. No way was I going to put out the $500 and spend the next few days in a blurr, so my superman like reflexes kicked in and just as I was entering the water, both my hands came back to my face and I grabbed them and held the suckers in place and braced for the impact. Whew! that was close, I saved them. As I was surfacing and had my glasses firmly in hand ,so as not to drop them, I realized something was wrong ?? In my attempt to save the glasses I had broken them clean in two, one piece in each hand. :mad:

Me and SWMBO have a group of friends who all hang out at Eagle Lake here in Mississippi. We all have lost numerous things overboard and joke about there has to be a huge Gar somewhere in the lake that is stylin and profilin. Off the top of my head I know he is wearing..

1 diamond earring, my wifes, lost while tubing

A Bulova watch, donated by a good friend of mine

A pair of Oakley sunglasses donated by my best friends son

A beautiful gold pendent necklace, my best friends wifes contribution

A silver and gold magnetic bracelet, my contribution

And numerous hats and doo rags that he can pick and choose from, :D

Indy440, that must of been a sight watching him fall in..please say he was in street clothes at the time as well..lol

Blu-Lunch...condolences sent! :(

Kev, did you look as cool as 'Charlie' when you wore them?;) And some guys have all the luck. Did you tease the one who caught the fish, how if you didn't send it looking for help, he'd of never got it.

NoKlu, maybe you can take them back and mention your not happy with the 'two for one' deal ya got... Sorry my sides were 'splitting' when I read your post. :)

Mddubya, guess I need to change my target species to Gar..lol...great visual

I think its time everyone invested in a pair of those sunglass neck straps, as well as a strap for their rods:D

While driving the little MFG, my favorite cap blew off my head and into the water. It floated just long enough for me to hang a U turn, come back, and hang a super tight U turn so the boat was leaned over so far I could reach out and grab the hat out of the water from the captains seat, slap the soaking wet hat on my head, and throttle up and away.

In the beginning of the season I lost my new Samsung touch screen cell phone overboard. Glad I had insurance but they cancelled me after that!! Pretty expensive phone.

Re: L.O.B. {lost overboard}

Working at a Marina, I retrieved many pairs of false teeth for people, quite a few tools, and too glasses to mention. Because of that I have never lost anything AT a Marina, but I have lost my share of things elsewhere ... fish took a rod when I wasn't looking one day ... but I have "fished out" several rods to replace the missing one, so all is good ... my cell phone needed to be replaced a couple weeks ago when I went swimming with it in my pocket in the Pacific (2 nights ago the replacement phone went through the washer! 15 years with a cell phone and never a problem, but 2 in 2 weeks! Yikes ... the one on the washer dried out and works okay, but they don't like salt water!). A few hats have been lost, and a friend almost lost his 12 guage shot gun when it slid down the bank and out on the ice that was too thin to walk on, the sun was out, and the ice was melting fast around the gun ... we cut through the ice with the pontoon and got close enough to hook the trigger guard with a pool and push it to within arms reach of the shore ... close call.
