L/U and W/P reinstall on 18hp Evinrude ??

In the picture, is there any kind of gasket between L/U and exhaust housing when putting back together. Didn't see one on parts diagram. Should I use Permatex or something, or nothing.

Also, do I use any knd of sealer on the W/P impeller plate when reinstalling new W/P?

Is there anything else I need to lub or seal when putting L/U and gearcase back together?

There is not a gasket between the housings.
You can use sealer on the plate on the bottom of the pump, I normally don't.

BTW....What is this little black magnet looking thing in the following pics? It sits in a groove in the back, lower section of the gearcase housing.

If I remember correctly, it is a magnet to capture any metal fragments in the lower unit.
