A good friend of mine just bought a boat with an 82 evinrude 150 on it, upon looking it over we noticed the lu had not been refilled. When he called the P.O. he stated that he had drained it for winter as always and then refills in spring with new lube and washers. Question is will this do any damage sitting with no lube in it for 3-4 months? should he flush it out somehow before he refills for spring summerization? I wasn't sure what to tell him and thought I would see what you all thought. Thanks this site is the BEST.

Won't hurt it as long as it wasn't run without oil. Assuming some critter didn't get up in there and build a nest. But I doubt that unless he likes an oily butt more than I do.

Personally I dont like it as it leaves the gears exposed to the air but in reality they're still somewhat covered and probably ok... But I dont do it.
