L/U oil change ?

Usually around December or late November is when I usually change my lower unit oil on my 9.9 mercury 4 stroke to prevent any water from freezing in my lower unit and causing problems. The thing is i usually do this after my last boating trip of the year (Thanksgiving at beach). But the weather forecast in the near future (next week) says its gonna get as low as 30 degrees at night and I'm afraid if any water is in it, i might have a problem. Is it kosher to change the L/U oil early, use the boat one time after, and forget it till spring (after the other winterization chores are done)?
