Re: Lake Cumberland level

Yeah, and its going to cost all the marina thousands of dollars to move the marina so that they are'nt stuck in mud all year long. The Wolf River dam has been deteriorating since the mid 70's and now the corp wants to fix it at triple the cost. All dams are being scrutinized due to the ill prepared levees of Louisiana. I wonder tho...do you think I could get a cheap lot in Cumberland?

Re: Lake Cumberland level

I have been following the news on Lake Cumberland for awhile now. I run a site called http://lakelevelalert.com that monitors this type of thing.

We had a similar situation on Lake Hartwell in Georgia when it was decided that the Dam needed repairing about 5 years ago. The Corp lowered the lake some 16 feet in our case to make repairs. The following spring and summer was drought-like conditions in GA so we dealt with extremely low lake levels for about a year and a half. Lots of damage to boat/docks etc. that year. Then, when the lake did rise again, there was so much debris in the water that boating and particulary skiing and tubing were almost impossible. I guess that comes with the territory of maintaining a dam and a lake though.

I was down at the dam a few weeks ago, just to check. If you've ever been to the ramp at the dam you know it's about 5 lanes wide. 3 were high and dry, 2 were wet but ended a few feet below the surface. A small fishing boat might get in there, but a heavy fiberglasss boat is out of the question.

Burnside is sitting on mud flats. Scary looking sites. I guess Laurel Lake will be inundated this summer. Just don't bring your through the hull exhaust, not allowed. Prop exhaust only.
