Yeah after seeing the water level last year at the Butte and ruining a few props me and another buddy decided to move our boats to Powell. It's been working good so far. About four hours longer drive but worth it!

Great video! What type of camera do you use? It looked like you had it on the tube with you....Is it waterproof? I liked the shot where the camera was above the boat..that was cool. What kind of boat?

Cptkid, it is a GoPro HD2. The camera isn't waterproof but the camera housing is. It is a really cool camera and I have had a lot of fun filming with it.

My boat is a 1998 Caravelle 188, 4.3GL Volvo SX. It has been a great boat so far! The other boat is my friends 2002 Cobalt 220, now that is a nice boat!

Looks like a blast ! Picked up a boat last August and am planning a trip down to Powell this September launching at Bullfrog. We have a young family like yours and are planning to shore camp as it looks like your family/friends do. Any hard learned lessons you could share would be great. We have a very nice set of camp supplies but have yet to pack them around on the boat . What kind of portable Loo do you recommend ?

Dugfab, if you have camping experience you won't haves problem. Getting all the gear into an 18ft boat is the only tricky part. If you watch towards the end of the video you can see the bow is packed. Up there was a camp table, tent, double sleeping bag, water jug, large cooler and a camping box on the floor between the bow seats. So with all the bulky stuff up front, that left the rest of the boat for my family of four and the rest of the camping gear, chairs, clothes, food, etc. It isn't too bad if you are mindful about how, and what you pack.

We camped up near Bullfrog last year in Halls Creek Bay. Lots of camping around there. We made it down to Rainbow Bridge that trip.

Carry extra fuel...running out of gas has been a common theme at all of the Powell trips I have attended. Make sure your boat is well maintained too.

Yah, took me a bit to pull the trigger on the tent. Worth every penny though, and should be able to last a lifetime. Not worried about the camping aspect, and the boat is very mechanically sound. How much gas do you carry ? Liquid porta pot, bag system ? Firewood ?

forgot about the potty...that is critical! We use the 5 gallon bucket with the snap on toilet seat with the "double doodie" bags. The wifes and kids don't mind using it and the proper bags will keep the rangers from citing you. For the record we have never had a ranger inspect camp, but you are required to have a porta potty or bag system to camp.

Last trip I packed a rubbermaid container full of split firewood. That was enough for two good fires, utilizing some of that scrub tree all over the beach as a supplement.

I carry a five gallon can on the back of the boat which will run my little 4.3 Volvo a long distance. My buddy carries 10 gallons on his boat as a reserve to feed his 6.2 Merc.
