Anybody use this on their current setup? I am considering buying one. I have a bass boat so I think just the reduced draft will benefit me as well as all of the other benefits supposedly reaped from this thing. It is used so what should I look for to make sure it is in good condition? Thanks for any advice.

Re: Land & Sea Transom Jack

I'll be glad to tell you about them. I sold them as a distributor to dealers. I bought one to put on my drag boat. I was testing one day and it fell from full up to full down at about 3/4 track. The boat hooked to one side and then the other. I really thought it was going to barrel roll. Anyway I sent it back to them and told them I didn't want it anymore. They told me it was designed to "fall" down with large motors (V8's) in rough water. OK..... I was running a V4 (looper) in dead calm water. They reassured me they would fix it. I told them I had already installed a Bob's Machine manual that would NOT "fall". I have since run MANY hydraulic plates from Bob's or CMC (Cook) with no problems. V6's and V8's.

I would recommend a hydraulic plate for your rig but make sure it's a good one. Currently I run a Bob's (hydraulic) on my Hydrostream Vegas (225 Johnson looper) and love it.

Good luck!

I agree with Dhadley & Hooty Stay away from that thing! It does not carry my V-8 as advertised, and shame on "Hot Boat" & "Trailer Boat" Magazines for hyping this POS! Just my .02

I thought Land & Sea were the only one's that made a transom jack for a sterndrive. You mean Bob's or CMC sell jack plates for sterndrive's or I/O's also? I'm sure glad you guy's gave me your input! The last thing I want to do is barrel roll at 85mph. Any other brands or suggestions would be appreciated. I think I will check the website's you guys mentioned and see what's available. THANKS AGAIN!

495v -- We also tried the Land and Sea stern Jack (stern drive deal) and it didn't work at all. Nothing bad -- it just didn't make the boat any faster. It basically is a set back. I have no doubt that it may help in certian cases but not on our Velocity. If you want to raise the X dimension on your stern drive call Imco (Calif. 800-899-8058). They make short drives and a standoff box that raises the X dimension without moving the motor. Real nice people.

Good luck!

Re: Land & Sea Transom Jack

Dhadley, I visited Imco and the short drives that I seen there were for Bravo's. They are also pretty pricey ($2000 - $3000). I am looking at the right product, right(listed stnd short drive, 1" short drive, and 2" short drive). What is a standoff box? Is that basically just a spacer? The only reason I was thinking about the Land & sea jack was because I have a lead on a nice used one for cheap, but it's not worth the savings if it's going to jeopardize my safety. I still can't find any other transom jacks for a sterndrive, Alpha 1. Any other advice?

Re: Land & Sea Transom Jack

Is the LnS product you have a line on a hydraulic jackplate (outboard) or a Stern Jack (sterndrive)? If you are talking about the Stern Jack, it basicaly extends the drive straight back. This new arc increases the positive and negitive trim. If your rig is a sterndrive and could use more positive trim, it may help.

The outboard hydraulic jackplate from them is what I had trouble with (saftey). The Stern Jack we tried had no saftey issues -- it just did not improve anything (acceleration or top speed) on our boat.

What boat/motor do you have? Tell us about your rig (including prop type and style) and what you are looking to improve.

Good luck!

Re: Land & Sea Transom Jack

To Dhadley or however else has their 2 cents to add. The LnS jack I was looking at is for a sterndrive. I have a 21' Ranger bassboat, with a 5.7L Mercruiser, Alpha 1 drive. I'm currently running a 19" SS Mirage prop. I'm looking to get a few more MPH at top end and thought maybe could improve my fuel consumption. However, none of this is worth it if I'm going to jeopardize my safety. You said you found no safety issues with the sterndrive jack? You also found no improvements? Any other advice for my rig?

Re: Land & Sea Transom Jack

I'm currently running a 19" SS Mirage but I don't know my RPM. Learned so much from this site over the winter that I can't wait to get out on the water to really test my current setup. I believe my recommended range is 4400-4800. Do you think this jackplate will lower or raise my RPM's? Do you know of any other manufacturer's that produces this type of jack? So are there any safety issues to be concerned about?

If your boat could use more trim then it probably will help. It seems like you can't lose -- they give your money back if it doesn't pick up 10% on top end.

Keep in mind it doesn't "jack" or move anything. It's an 8" setback spacer. Your outdrive will be spaced 8" further back. This will change your leverage point and should carry the bow better.

What prop and RPM are you doing now?

Good luck!

Re: Land & Sea Transom Jack

Don't do anything til you get a tach. Establish your baseline and we can go from there. The Mirage is a great prop but if it's not the right one, it's just so much steel.

Let us know!

Re: Land & Sea Transom Jack

Dhadley, I have a tach I just never new so much about setting up a boat until I joined this site. I'm waiting for my first run this season so I can check it out. I know my recommended RPM is 4400-4800, but I never paid any attention last year. I will check it out in a few weeks and get back. As far as the Mirage, That was the prop the Ranger factory rigged it with so I'm sure it's okay, I'm just anticipating that if I install a jack, chances are I will change prop pitch as well. Do you think a jack will increase or decrease my RPM's with the current prop?
