This is getting out of hand, gents. I have been guilty, too, a couple of times.

A vulgar word or phrase misspelled or made into an acronym is still a vulgar word or phrase. Let's all knock that off.

If you can't think of a polite word and have to be vulgar, just do this: #$%^&*.

The iboats style is decency; Decent topics and decent language.

Thanks for your cooperation. :)

Re: Language.

I tend to agree that things like carp, even though the real word is getting less and less offensive, is one of those things that gets used enough to where other words sneak in and then the site will lower itself to the others that are out there. Don't get me wrong I use words I shouldn't all the time and sometimes they just slip out, but when I'm typing I have plenty of time to find another word that will suffice.

Oh by the way- Is carp a bad word when used when not talking about a type of fish? Yes I'm serious.

Re: Language.

i persoally like the family oriented quality of this forum. it's very friendly and most educational. however. i take issue with the censoreship of only one of my posts. i described a tool by it's proper name and the proper name was turned into *******.
is there some reason that a tool can't be called by it's proper name? http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=016170#000000
that's the link to where i must have used an offensive word. how describing a file is offensive is beyond me though......it just don't rank up there with $#^% in my mind. i can't help what the proper name of the tool is......and i do feel it's censorship too. i'll let it rest and and continue to be educated by this exellent boating forum. i've learned much here and hopefully have helped someone else too along the way too. to me that is what it's all about here at iboats, helpin each other out with our favorit passion, boats. thanks iboats.....i just wanted to voice my opinion about that and this thread looked like a good place to speak my peace....

Re: Language.

ziggy I also had one edited when I mentioned the local sporting goods chain that shares it's name with the slang for the male member. I'm sure there is a list of words here that automatically get *****'d. I don't believe that the mods do it manually.

Re: Language.

I take it that the Admin part of iboats sets the censored words. I have no clue, but most have it set that way. They write up what they want censored and enter it in the word censor list.

i don't believe the mods did that to me either. i'm just bringing it up because we all try to use the correct terms for parts, tools, etc. which is what i did. and i was censored for it, which i disagreed with. how many times has a post been written that the question becomes, what are you talking about, use the proper name for it to describe it.
SBN
They write up what they want censored and enter it in the word censor list.
perhaps the admin should adjust there forbidden word list then.

i understand that this thread is not about the censorship that i talk about. and i agree with the treads objective. but, i just thought i complied with this statement.
you know me,
ziggystardust
question authority
i just like to stir up the nest a little bit...especialy if i think i've been censored for no reason...ie. proper tool discription..

enough of my whinein, i've spoken my peace, and it's in the admins hands, for better or worse, thankyou for lettin me speak my mind....,
have a great day folks..... ;)
