Large carpeted floor mat over carpet -- stopping slippage?

I recently had new 1/4" pile marine carpet installed in my boat. The place that installed it also made me a "floor mat" made out of the same carpet they installed, which wraps in front of and behind my lounge seats and down the center of them...basically it's shaped like a short "H" laying on it's side. I really like the idea of this mat but it has a tendency to move around and/or not lay flat and gets wrinkles in it.

Here is a pic that shows the mat in place between the seats:

The installer suggested he could install button snaps to keep it in place, but I don't like the idea of having one half of the button snaps permanently installed into the main carpet not to mention that when this mat needs replacing, the snaps on the new mat will have to line up perfectly with the snaps in the main carpet.

Any recommendations for holding the mat in place?

In my opinion i think snaps may be the only way to go. Shouldn't be that hard when replacing that carpet to align new snaps with old fittings. Really cant think of any other way to get the tension in it ur gonna need. Maybe someone will chime in with some help

I have a floor mat for people to wipe their feet on when entering my boat. Its small, probably 2x4 feet in size, but it has a rubber non slip backing on it that keeps it from moving around. This mat also sits on my factory snap in carpet, so its a similar situation to yours. See if the place that did your carpet can add some sort of rubberized backing; there are lots of products out there for just such a purpose.

UPDATE: I had to take the boat back in to the installer who made the mat for me for some other issues and he said he will sew in some rubber cleat backing to the back of the floor mat. He showed me a sample of the cleat material and it looked a lot like this:

Supposed to be getting the boat back today.
