I have a 93 200 hp yamaha and would like to know the difference between the large and small crank. Is there a benefit by haveing one or the other. I need a new powerhead and they sell both and I don't know what the difference would be.
hello
it is in the bearing housing and flywheel assy. there were two styles of upper bearing housing. a 3 post and a 4 post. the posts are the tabs the stator screws into. I tink it was in the 93-94 year that it changed. anyway you must reuse a block that has the correct bearing housing or you have to buy all the electronics and flywheel with it.
good luck and keep posting
Rodbolt thank you so much for that info, if I had not known it would have been a 50-50 type deal and I'm sure you know how those things turn out.
You just saved me a lot of grief.
Love this forum even more now.
Are you asking whats the difference or why Yamaha made the change. Yamaha made the change because the cranks were breaking. The top journal breaks where the flywheel attaches on the crankshaft.
I need a new power head and they sell them with a large or small crank and I was not aware of the difference. But thats still good to know Brian. Mine snapped between the the top 2 pistons after it got wrapped around a lobster pot last july so ineed to get new PH, PDQ. Iboats has a pretty good deal on them, so I need to go out and see what sized crank it is.Thanks guy's for the help, any OTHER info would be much appreciated.
