Why do I what, not need, a larger and faster boat? What is it that triggers this urge? Wanted 22', bought 24' just to be sure and now I want more. Anyway, who makes a 26' and up fast deep v bowrider?

New or used? How fast? Most importantly, whats your budget?

Just saw a mint condition Atomic for sale locally, not sure of the year but it said it only had 110hrs on it. I think it was 31ft and looked brand new from the pics. Had an 1100hp motor in it!

Re: Larger boat, why?

ok, Obviously I love Crownlines but you would be hard pressed to get a Crownie to 70, my 248 has a 7.4L MPI but it also has a Bravo III so it will suffer on top, if I had a single prop Bravo I could get 60 out of it easily, 496 Mag and were a pretty solid 65.

Baja has some nice Bowriders that will go that fast properly setup but they lack the refinements of a Crownline or Cobalt, but you have to make that decision on your own, Advantage is a nice product and I hear great things on the speed side probably better then 70, Nordics and Powerquest are also nice boats but are clearly go fast boats that your going to have to decide if you want more speed or more luxury, I'm fine where I am at but like you I feel that go fast need, I will eventually go for a 502 or 496 MAG and that will be the end, I love my Bravo III and what it gives me, the bottom end bite I want, I will be plenty happy at 60 MPH. Keep in mind that going that fast probably means going longer, even a 26' boat is likely to be a little "fun" at 70!

I am sure I am forgetting a couple, I have friends with all the makes I mentioned and they love them all. I hope this helps.

Buy a Fountain. When you write a few payment checks, that urge will be gone.

Every time you pull up to fuel dock, you'll wish you had more credit on that card.

It depends on what you want out of a boat. Me personally, I wouldn't want bigger than a 24' runabout, because they get too big to be doing what I use a runabout for: watersports, cruising, and easy towing. If I step up to a bigger boat, it would be a 30'+ cruiser IN ADDITION to the runabout or ski boat. I like bigger boats, but they have to fit a purpose. I wouldn't be happy with ONLY a cruiser, but I can make due with ONLY a runabout.

As far as go-fast boats are concerned, it's another mixed bag of what you want to do and where you boat. You want to go fast on small lakes and have room for 4-5, go get a jet boat with a big-block attached to it. You'll be rocking 70mph without too much issue, even more if you want to throw a blower on it. You running on bigger lakes/ocean and want to haul 6 people? Get the offshore-style boat with twin engines. While I personally love the look of a 30'+ Cigarette or similar, I think the Nordic boats with the mid-cabin and open-bow are more my style.

Finally, how fast is fast enough? Once you go 65-70mph, is that sufficient, or do you start craving 85-90? Going over that 65mph limit on an offshore boat requires some pretty good cash because the basic big block isn't going to do it. You have to start looking at big-bores, forced induction, and high-speed outdrives. I have been at 70 mph on a jet ski and on a jet boat, and while it is fun to be able to go that fast, it loses its novelty for me after about a minute or so. Then I spend the rest of my time around 35mph, lol

you my friend have "twofootitius" it can only be cured by buying a boat at least 2' longer than your current boat. it is an afliction that affects nearly all boaters.

cant answer your fast deep v bowrider question without research

Is a 33' Bow rider with 600HP on the back big enough for you?

Re: Larger boat, why?

Someone say Checkmate? :D

Also, a 27', 70 MPH I/O with a closed deck = tiny cockpit. You solve for speed with negative cockpit space.

To be in the 70 MPH range @ my budget with a huge interior, it was either what I own or a Baja Islander with a Merc 525 racing engine, which is way over 100k in the condition I'd want it in.

Edit: these are not the only choices! Just what I was considering! :)

I guess I missed the part about being a bowrider!

Re: Larger boat, why?

Maybe I should be more specific. Would like to cruise about 45-50 mph. What would a 496mag, bravo3, do with 270 slx sea ray or similiar boat?

I would say somewhere in the fifties depending on where you boat, I lose a bit boating in Colorado, closer to sea level will bring you closer to 60 but a 270 is a heck of a lot of boat.
