I have a 87 Blue Fin Fish & Ski with a 50 hp Force with two 6 gallon tanks in the transom area. I am up grading to a 100 hp Evinrude and I want to install a new larger 20 gal. fuel tank under the port side lounge seats. Will I have to run an electric fuel pump, or will the primer bulb keep enough prime for the engine to pick up the fuel? I estimate that the fuel line will be about 10 feet long which will include a fuel/water seperator/filter.

Thanks! A friend of mine has a 19' Blue Fin with a tank mounted in the bow area like yours and he said he has to keep pumping his bulb to keep the prime. I think he must be getting air somewhere in his fuel line.

Re: Larger Outboard & Fuel tank location

very likely either his fuel pump is failing, or he has a leak.... i have a 12ft jon boat with a 6 gallon tank as far fwd as i could put it (think bow) and about 12 to 13ft of 3/8 fuel tubing leading back to the primer bulb and then 18" of line to the connection on the motor.... NO ISSUES... except in summer (yuma AZ 115*F+) then i have a slight issue for 1st 5 to 10 minutes of operation, I personally blame the new fuels for that...as i think it vaporizes at lower temps and essentially puts bubbles in the fuel line. as it is just a 15hp...I have been kicking around the idea of a smaller diameter fuel line to increase the speed of the fuel through the line and pull bubbles through faster. in anything less than about 98*F I have no problems at all.
