Larson 176 SEI Outboard Slipping

My Larson 176 SEi is slipping after I engage the prop past about 1500 RPMs. After that the RPMs go through the roof and the prop stops spinning. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

I forgot to add that it has a Volvo Penta engine, its a '98 boat, and is an inboard/outboard

I would suspect a spun hub on the prop.A prop shop can test and replace the hub if necessary.You'll get better info in the I/O section Or perhaps props.Try props seeing it appears to be a prop issue.
