Hey fellow-boaters, just bought me a brand new Larson 274. For the last weeks, we had quite a lot of rain+wind over here, and I've experienced some water-intrusion in the aft cabin. Since the inside of the Larson is completely vinyl-lined, it's rather hard to pin-point the exact location of the intrusion, though I suspect the window-hull assembly. Does anyone out there any have similar experience on his 274 or a similar Larson (260,240,290) ? Or did you have a similar problem, but with a completely different cause ? Problem is that I did find a small leak towards the aft cabin, but it just does not seem enough to explain the amount found in the engine bilge...

Re: Larson 274

Is the boat in the water or on a trailer? A water leak is hard to find since it can come in from anywhere and just goes to the lowest point (bilge). You will want to inspect all places that there should be sealant. Railings, windows, mouldings, lights, horns, seats.....anything. It could be there is a good leak and most of it goest to the bilge and only a little stays in the aft cabin. Or you could have several leaks. My advice would be to pull it out of the water if its in and be as thurow as possible. You should be able to do it in a half a day or so. I know on my boat I had a water leak from the transom shower. But I could hear the pump cycling so, it was kind of obvious.

Good Luck

I also have a new 2007 274 Cabrio and it also has alot of water in the bilge. Everytime we step aboard the auto-pump comes on and runs for a few. Can't find any leaks either...

Hey Sol Searcher....any luck so far with finding the waterintrusion ?
To me it's still partly a mysterie.... Only thing I can find is, when having a "wet" ride, is some water through the air chambers towards the engine. And perhaps the portholes, but thats minor...

Hey Jan, no haven't found anything leaking, but it does seem to have slowed down. Checked on it today and when I stepped aboard the bildge pump didn't even come on, so that's a good sign. My Brother tells me that alot of the time new boats tend to leak aroung the outdrive boot and then in time tend to seal them selves up. The biggest issue I have right now is that I can't get my Gen set started and my battery charger doesn't charge the battery's!!! I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what!

I havent' got a generator, so I dont have any experience on this issue...Your generator instead: did it ever charge ? I mean, when you switch the knob on the panel the do you see any (!) current on the charger in the engineroom ? Or is the difference in tension between your charger and the batteries too low? Otherwise, while on ONE battery - put on some users eg. the fridge(s), lights, waterpressure or wahatever you got installed on DC-power. The see if the current rises on the charger.

Jan! I found my leak!!! It was the "Port side" hole for the hydrolic line for the trim tab. The Starboard side was sealed and the Port wasn't, thus allowing seawater to enter.... By the way, got my Westerbeke Gen/Set started and it has a very loud knock. Oh and my Volvo outdrive now vibrates when tilted up slightly. You gotta love a "new" boat with problems!!!

Re: Larson 274

Congratulations ! Maybe I should take a look at them too....Suppose the boat must be out of the water ? So far, I've found nothing....very misty to me...
There IS water coming in, but 1/ not enough to (apparently) come from a sea-water leak 2/ nevertheless, still coming in even when it hasn't been raining for several days. So, your guess is as good as mine. Just for the record: how much water did you get let's say pro day ? Approx., of course...Any idea ??
For the rest, i've been saved from further problems - except for my fuel gauge which is "dead" since a wild ride, but i must admit it was a bit "over the edge", so - partly my fault. Still, it's quite annoying. I suppose they'll fix it under warranty. O, what i've read earlier on in several links turns out to be quite the truth: overall, the stainless isn't the best on the market. CU
