We took my boat out for the last time for 2010 on Saturday. It was pretty cool so we only made a short run. Burned up the last of the gas in the permanent tank and most of what was left in my portable. Brought it home, cleaned it out, removed the battery, and put on and secured the new cover. It fits pretty well but is a little short in the bow area. Gets the job done though. Then we took it over to the storage area we rented and cozied it up next to the Chieftain where it will spent the winter. I spent all day today straightening up my garage. My truck is inside for the first time since Sept '09 when I bought the SS. I'm happy to have the space back.

Thats great you where able to run yours till yesterday. I had to put mine up early due to a blown head gasket. I would have had to put it up a few weeks ago anyways it had gotten under freezing and it snowed today.

That last ride of the season is always a little sad. Contrast it to that high of the first ride of the new season next spring! Kinda makes you forget the last day.

Winter is long, glad to see they have each other for company.

Gosh, spring seems so far off doesn't it.:(

I would put a concrete block under the front jack to insure increased drainage ability.

Man I said it once before, I envy you northern guys for all the lakes up your way, but at least here in Va I can/could fish all winter. I think it would KILL me to put the boat up knowing I couldn't use it for several months. Don't get me wrong, the fishing sucks in the winter here, but at least I can go boating. Most people here put up the boats for winter too, but I am,how do I say this..., a little hardheaded. At least I don't worry about sharing the water with anyone.

Re: Last day out and put to bed

There isn't anything really preventing me from boating more this year other than it obviously being cold. However I have other projects and hobbies to attend to so I just don't foresee using it anymore this winter.

The Chieftain doesn't have a cover but probably won't get much more weathered than it already is :p We'll be working on it in the Spring.

revealing my considerable ignorance again here: for winterizing an I/O, you pull the block drain and drain plug from manifold. anything else? drain in lower unit?

i figure i'll have to worry about this in another 2 months or so.......:D

Dang EZ, you make me happy I'm an OB lover.
Yes I know you have a life after boats but I am a simple man with nuttin else to do. Besides, you devoted last winter to the boat so I can understand the diversion. Maybe next year I'll winterize mine...LOL who am I kidding:D
And you said yourself you have few things to do to her so it will be back in the garage around Feb or March.

Great to see you got out again EZ. They look kind of content sitting there waiting for spring. Fall weather is so unpredictable up here. Last week we had our first snow storm and very cold 10 f with wicked winds and this week we are back up to the mid 60's and low 70s go figure.

Re: Last day out and put to bed

congrats on a safe, and smooth last ride of the season!!!

ps. when storing in regions of heavy snows, I prefer not to leave the boat resting on the jack and prefer a few cinder blocks under where the V of the trailer is. I've seen and replaced many trailer jacks due to winter damage. When the jack is extended the tube isn't as well supported compared to when its shorter so the tube bends.

Here's to a better 2011 for ALL !!!
