I started my old 5.5 seahorse (59) and let it just run till it started peeing.

The head got a little hot, but she did finally start. I guess I was too afraid I would burn something up to let it run. It took about a minute.

Does any water shoot out of the bottom by the prop before the thermostat opens?

If the impellor is always pumping....where in the heck does the water go that is pumped prior to the thermostat opening.

Are the thermostats factory set to open at "X,Y,Z" temp. Over time will a new thermostate open sooner. I would like to see it open about 15 seconds sooner.

Thanks guys Im sorry Im so ignorant on this subject, this should be the last time

This might not be an answer but i know my with my Merc i have to rev it in nuetral to draw the water up and start peeing. If i dont it will take a long time to start. Just a few pumps with the throttle in nuetral starts it peeing in about 20 sec.

I was just so gun shy that it would over heat. This is the only my seconfd outboard motor. I had a Suzuki 85 hourse on a bass boat years ago but it was new, cant afford that now, I have kids instead. :D

As long as yall dont think it will burn up, Im satisfied.

Hi Spur - now i answered your question in your other thread - be carefull if the pump doesnt get water right away - it can be damaged in a hurry.
