Hi,

This is all the information there is on the motor...
Mariner 50hp late 70?s block no 0244350, 3 cylinder

It sat on the porch for 2-3 years and was running when last used. Now there isn't any spark. I cleaned all the wire connections possible, which didn't help. The motor turns over of course.

I think it is solid state but not sure. All I have is a multi-meter and no Mercury testing equipment, not flywheel removal tool.

What could go bad just sitting? Thanks. Bob

Laddie

I disconnected the two yellow wires to the rectifier and never got any spark. Using the ohms meter it failed the test. I replaced it with a 50v capacitor and never got a spark. I'm wondering if I should have disconnected the kill switch wire when I had the capacitor on it.

Disconnecting the y/blk wire at the switchbox (guess that's what it is)and no spark.

It has a flex plate flywheel with two rings of bolts. I haven't tried the stator test yet.

Don't hook a capaciter to the yellow wires they are for battery charging only just leave them disconnected when testing the system.

It is actually a rectifier from radio shack. I am thinking it and a rectifier are the same thing. I'll just hook up the red wires though.
