There is a late 70's trihull for sale in my area for a low price. The owner told me this, the transom was bad, so he replaced it with plywood, the Center I-beam was bad and replaced. He said the repairs had been done, but not good. The only other problem is the seats could use replacing. The engine (100hp Chrysler) runs exceptionally. He wants $800, is it worth it. If so, can anyone guide me into making needed repairs?

What good are the repairs if they weren't done correctly?
Hull is worth $50. Its gonna cost you more to dispose of it than its worth. Its your call, but for what it will cost you to get things fixed right, you could buy any number of boats that only need cosmetic work. And thats assuming the engine will not need repairs.

Have you test drove the boat, and ran the engine in water?
Had the motor checked out?

Personally, I think you can do better.

Ayuh,...........
I wouldn't go Near it for $80.00,........ Much less $800.00...........

The Only person who's going to make anything on that boat is the Junkman, when he's Paid to haul it Away.................

I agree. I had a mid '70's 14' trihull with a 40 hp johnson out front for sale all last summer( or maybe the summer before) for $250 with the trailer. Then $150. I ended up giving the boat/motor away and keeping the trailer.

I recently sold a 71' 16ft trihull with a 60hp Evinrude that I overheated and wouldve had to rebuild for $400.....i think i got the better end of the deal prolly. 800 seems pretty steep especially when the repair work may or may not cause problems in the future.....that and everyone says the outboard they are selling works great or was running etc..

well, i'm definately off of it. I called the guy, he said that he wasn't willing to come down on price any because he had to pay money to get the ignition fixed. He said he wouldn't let me test-drive it because his insurance expired (or some other excuse like that). So, I am currently looking at another boat in the area- thanks!

BOY !!!! Did you almost make a big mistake!!!!! Like Fred said ,the seller did you a favor by being a jerk!!!I am sure that you will find something much better give or take a hundred or two.I would highly recommend a johnson or evinrude when you find something in your price range.Charlie
