Good morning, I'm looking at a boat with a late 80's DT-150 with the dual plug per cyl. Any of you suzuki experts have any pro or cons on this motor? It looks clean for its age, has had carbs cleaned and rebuilt, and sounds strong. I've always had Johnsons or Yamahas, so this would be my first suzuki. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Re: Late 80's suzuki dt-150 pros-cons

I have a 87 DT 150 SS. I've had a few issues but nothing major, other than when I first got it. My low oil warning module was bad and wasn't available, but was told that all I needed to do was disconnect wiring harness from it to CDI box. It does run strong. As with any motor, they need regular maintenance. I keep a check on spark plugs for any indication of problems. And I did discover after one outing that my #5 cyl coil pack was breaking down, but once I replaced it, no problem. At 20 plus years old, its just a simple matter of keeping an eye on it. It pushes my ProCraft 20' around our lake easy enough. The 2 plug per cyl is supposed to be stronger than one without 2 plugs, but I don't have any experience to verify that.

Thanks for the info Hank, I ended up purchasing the boat/motor, like I said I have some outboard experience so routine maint. is always a must. Thanks again
