I have a 1997 40hp merc. that hasn't run since July. I would like to winterize it but I don't have access to water. can you winterize the motor without it running?

Re: late winterizing!

Stand it up right and the water will (unless frozen) run out. drain the carbs and spray a little fogging oil in the spark plug holes.
Done!!!
Its not going to get better or worse after sitting that long unless you have water in it.

I would only add to change the gear lube this should be done at least anually and doing it in the fall assures you have no water in the gearcase that may freeze.
