Ahhh --- the same old crap about using the boat engine to charge four batteries. That's sort of a true statement but they don't tell you with an outboard you'd have to run wide open for days to get four deeply discharged batteries up to snuff. Otherwise, plugging into the truck for the drive to the lake is certainly not rocket science. But at $3.00+/gallon are you going to idle your truck to charge batteries during a week long stay at a resort or in the boonies. If you need to store your boat at a lot, this might make some sense. If you store it at your home, it doesn't. There simply is no better way to charge the batteries than with a smart charger.

I have a 135 amp alternator on my truck. Even tho its regulated I would not want it hooked up to my boat batteries. I'll keep my on board charger. They are the greatest thing since sliced bread.
