As some may remember, I have been completely restoring my old Glastron T-166. If not, the last thread is here: http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=26;t=000495#000026

The project was put on hold the past few weeks while I had surgery to repair a disc in my back, so I really havn't been able to do much. I have tinkered a bit as my body would allow and have finishe dthe paint and have started putting some light items back on. Here is a Gallery of a few pics: Gallery of Updates

The boat needs washing, as there are dirt spots on the paint that make the paint look funny in the pics. Right now I'm on hold looking for a 16ga piece of aluminum to put between the motor and transom, and some extra pieces for the new Teleflex steering setup.

There are also a couple pics of my lifting apparatus as there have been a couple discussions around before about how to lift things. This tool was built for me by my father-in-law when I was rebuilding the 302 V* in my other boat. It and its 2ton hoist have had no problem linting a fully dressed 302 w/manifolds, my V4 Johnson, and even the transom end of T-166 while I was paintiong the bottom. Yes, the black strap is a transom tie-down strap. I used it as an extra safety measure, and it helped hold the boat on its side wihile suspended so I could sand/paint the bottom.

Ona side note, the three weeks the boat has sat without any real progress has been a blessing in disguise. It has taken much of that time for the paint to cure to a nice hard finish.

jason that looks good man. I was putting a red stripe on mine to like the idea about wrapping the stripe around the back

Re: Latest project updates

You are correct, it is a Harbor Freight hoist. There were a couple times I wish I had 2. I ended up using a come-along and a strong tree limb for the bow. The limb worked, but never felt as safe. That Frame is about 11' tall. It was barely tall enough to put the engine in my 19' boat while it was on the trailer (the boat is really tall). It is made from 4x4 posts, with 2 2x6x12' boards for the header,a nd numerous 2x4 braces. I never creaked when I lifted the engine or the boat. Cost about $75 to build at home Depot. I'll probably convert it to a really tall, strong backyard swing when I am finished.... until it is needed again.

Necessity really is the mother of invention!

On the flake, if you wanted/had to, you could sand it off then repaint. I feel lucky that neither of my Glastrons is metalflake.

By the way, 2K, be sure to put the cleats back on befor putting the deck back on the hull... It would be a bear to reachthe backs of the front cleats to put the nuts on.

Yup, I learned this the hard way.....

JasonB, was thinking about you the other day wondering how the paint job went... Paint looks good.... :D

Did the Rust-oleum give ya any problems?

BTW.. My area Lowes has the new "marine" rustoleum line... Topside paint, primers, varnishes, and even anti-fouling bottom paint.. :D

Re: Latest project updates

The only problem I had was that the off white I put above the waterline took forever to harden. I waited over a week to tape it offa nd paint the red, but when I pulled the tape off, it pulled paint up like thin rubber. I sanded and touched those spots up. Two weeks later, all the paint I was about to try to take off has hardened as it should have. I think I put the coats down to quick. I was in a hurry and laid 6 coats in one afternoon. Otherwise, it looks great and has gone very well. I tried wet sanding a small area to get a smoother shine, but wasn't happy with the results, so I'm going to leave it alone. Had thought about adding an automotive clear coat, but havn't decided yet. I started putting the rubrails and cleats back on today.
