Picture a 150 foot smooth dirt track with a 5:1 gradient starting from a grass paddock, down to the beach.

The boat trailer has polystyrene flotation blocks bolted to the sides and rear. Two 1 inch guide poles welded to the back about 3 foot high. with a flag.

The trailer has a car size jockey wheel attatched to the draw bar in the, "locked forward position". The boat is strapped to the trailer.... and line her up !!. Everyone jumps on board and the last one in gives the trailer a small nudge over the side... and down ya go. At the halfway point we are doing about 30mph.. real white knuckle ride, I tell ya.

Well, the boat and trailer hit the surf, motor down and idle out through the waves to deeper water. Un strap the boat, and reverse off the trailer....

Coming back is the opposite but there is a guy on the beach with the winch cable ready to quickly hitch you up and pull you back up the track before the second wave gets ya.... even if you don't like boating.. just watching us go about launch and retrive is full of laughs. It's the only place in the world that it is done.. ha ha ha.

It is a very original way to get the boat in the water. As New Zealand is very coastal, there are not many facilities for launching if you are out of the cities. Best part is droping the anchor on the TRAILER and trying to find it when you return. There is always about 20-30 bobbing about in the bay.

should contact one of those tv shows where they show wierd stuff from around the world

(not to be confused with wierd stuff from around the trailer park, a la Jerry Springer)

THAT would be a hell of a clip!

(I wonder if they have brakes in case some big rollers come in, bigger than they looked, and you go smashing into them at 30, lol, with the wieght of the trailer pulling you down!)

glub glub glub no worries mate!
