launching on a sandy beach.

I read on here that using chainlink fencing will allow me to launch on a soft,sandy beach. I am going to try it but was wondering do I use 2 4' rols or 1 8' roll? I would think that the 8footer would be too heavy to handle with one person. I am launching a fairly heavy boat 5000lbs and using a crewcab diesel so it is going to be alot of weight on the chainlink. <br /><br />lingcod

I have no input on the chain link fence other than to suggest that you have a backup plan to pull it out in case the sand is too soft. I wouldn't try it with a 5K lb boat.

Agree with SoLittle. It sounds like it might work with a flat boat or something you could man handle around. On a lot of sand beaches it stays shallow a fair distance out. Why are you doing this?

I have got some property in the san juans that we have been launching off of for years. we have been using a second vehicle to assist in the removal of the launch vehicle. If i can find a way of launching alone then me and the girls can go up there alone without having to have another 4x4 with us. backing down is not an issue but the pulling out is as the sand is soft about 50feet up the beach.<br /><br />lingcod

hi<br /><br />to try and help, i launched of a lot of sandy and stone beaches and have a couple of tips that have worked for me.<br />1) on my trailer i have put on big and very wide wheels, "mini wheels are good" this helps the trailer sinking<br />2) i carry a roll of plastic in the car, which i use on the sand and roll out to help launchng on my own, i have 2 rolls of aboat 10 meters each and roll the boat over each other moving the one from the back to the front.<br />3)i also carry a very long rope, which helps with launching and retrieving the boat on my own.<br /><br />for launching the boat i keep the rope tied to the car which is on hard ground in case the boat does get stuck i can pull it out easy. <br /><br />for retrieving the boat i use the rope on the car on hard ground and attached to the trailerin the water and drive the car untill the boats on hard ground.<br /><br />hope these tips help<br /><br />thanks<br />dave<br />dave@boatsafetycenter.com<br /> http://www.boatsafetycenter.com

I do it all the time with my jet ski's on a double trailer. I use a Jeep. Air down your tires as much as you can before the bead breaks. On both trailer and truck. Trick is to ease on the gas coming out so you wont start digging. I'd have a pull truck handy the first couple times till u get comfy doing it. I would never try it with my boat. Too heavy.

Sounds to me like a winch on the front of the truck would do what you want instead of the hassle of a fence. Can you plant something in the ground to attach a winch to?
