Hi,

I have a cheap lawnmower at the cottage. It will start correctly, but will stall after 15secondes if we don't keep pushing the priming bulb, what could be the problem? It was used maybe 5 times since new before starting to do this.

thanks in advance.

I would first check the fuel line and make sure it is clear.

The possibility of a clog in the carb...... ?

Bet it is the carb too. First if it is Tecumseh the bottom of the carb should have what looks like a brass nut. This is actually the main jet and they are notorious for plugging. If yours has this tip the motor up and remove the brass nut. There should be two small holes in the threads and another one on top. Clean these holes out with wire and a carb cleaner and then blow them out and retry.

If you have to remove the carb to do a cleaning and or rebuild make sure you take very detailed pics of the governor. You will want to be able to see how the linkages and springs are hooked up when you put it back together. Also before you remove the carb move the governor forward and back wards. Typically they are all the way either forward or backwards when the motor is off and that is what you want when you reinstall it.

If it has a fuel pump instead of a gravity feed then that is where i would start. When you use the primer it still has to go to the carb so I wouldn't think that you have carb issues but you never know.

Re: lawnmower problem

This is a pretty common problem with cottage lawnmowers. I had one once and it always stalled after 15 minutes (and would not start again all weekend) at which time I headed down to the lake with a six pack to go lay on the dock and maybe do some swimming.
Never did find out the root cause.
