I have reached the point in my restoration of a crownline 196 that I have pb'd the plugs in the holes fI made for foam. I will say that tips about to use acetone for the stir stick and paper towels to clean my dollar store mixing cups was spot on. Messy but only needed one stir stick two small and one large plastic pitchers. How many layers of csm do I need? Searay did 3 layers of csm and overlapped them. Trying to figure out how to minimize walking on the fresh layers. Folks are all over the place on csm or 1708 or both. Don't want to skimp, just need it to be okay. I'm going to carpet over it. I have a bunch of csm, not much 1708 left. After 2 months of 6-7 hours a day it is getting close to done. Thanks

If you're going to carpet then Here's my recommendation for glassing the deck. Use 12" strips of 1708 to tab the deck to the hull sides. then use 2-3 layers of CSM for the deck. Coat with resin first then apply the first layer of CSM and BUTT the joints. After it gets a bit tacky, use a couple of 24" squares of plywood and staple a couple layers of Wax Paper to one side. Lay these down on the deck, wax paper side down, so you can move around while putting on the next layer. Lay the next layer in the opposite dierection and butt the joint. This allows you to have a perfectly flat and smooth deck.with no gaps in the glass. I'd use sealing wax in the last batch so the resin will fully cure in 48 hours. Just give it a good scuff with 60 grit prior to applying the carpet glue.

Thanks. I used 9” tabbing strips on the hull side. Shall I add another layer of 1708 to be sure it’s enough?

Don't have to but it wouldn't hurt. That's the most critical area.
