Lazy starter - E200txetd

got the engine wired up, cleaned up a bit and wanted to give it a shot at turning over. Hooked up some water and turned the key and the starter barely turns the engine and started smoking.

Wondering if there was an issue with the battery cables or battery switch I direct hooked a new cranking battery up and tried it again to the same result.

Checked with remote switch to rule out a key switch issue or solenoid and same thing.

Do do I need to rebuild replace the starter? Or is there something else I should do first?

Quick update - did a voltage drop test as well and everything came back ok. But, got a single click on the solenoid now. I guess that could be causing the issue?

Considering cost vs. I work i ordered a new solenoid that arrived today. Will see if there is any change.

Jump start directly to the starter (isolates and tests starter).

It was the starter. New one in and she started. the resurrection is now complete.

new water pump and impeller, power pack, plugs, batteries and a lot of terminal scrubbing... but she fired up and smoked like a mad man
