My Yamaha LCD fuel guage always reads full. Is this an indication that the sending unit it bad or the guage? To test the sending unit do I connect the volt meter to the sending wire or disconnect the sending wire and connect directly to the sending unit? Not familiar with this any help is appreciated.

Re: LCD Fuel Guage Question

You do neither. Since the gauge is already registering full, disconnect the sender wire at the gas tank. If the gauge now registers something other than full, it is likely the sender. If the gauge still registers full it is likely the gauge. Unlike analog gauges, digital gauges have internal electronics so it is more likely to have a gauge problem with an LCD unit. Disconnecting the sender from the system should cause a different reading.

Re: LCD Fuel Guage Question

Before I read the reply to my original thread, I disconnected the ground from the sending unit instead of the sending wire itself. When I did that the guage went to empty. I assume because of the change on the guage that the sending unit is shot. Thoughts??
