Hello: I am brand new to this forum. First, I would like to say how impressed I am with the quality of replies made to questions. It seems the members make a real effort to be helpful. Now, My problem. I have an 02 F115 Yamaha. I bought it used and have run it for to seasons in salt water. It has started to make oil. I am trying to solve the problem myself. So far, I have changed the t-stat, soaked the cylinders with a decarb, and did two shock treatments of Ring-free. From what I have read, a leak down test would be in order. Is this something I could do myself or is special equipment needed? Thanks

Re: Leak Down Test

I'm real new here myself and have the same recently aquired motor so have been watching these threads with interest.
I haven't seen any problem with my motor but I am a tinkerer and was interested in how to do a leak down test.
I found this web site which gives a pretty good explanation I think and also instructions on building your own tester if you are so inclined.
Hope this is ok to post this link.

mdunn: Great reply! It really covered the topic.
Ray: I am not familiar with "Scream and Fly". Can you set me straight?
Thanks again
