Hey guys so I completely stripped down the SS and filled the hull above the water line found 2 rivets and there was a constant drip from this little hole in the center of the boat should I be worried?

Re: Leak test

I think that means that the leak is happening on one-or-more rivets securing the keel to the hull sheet.

what's that grey, volcano-looking mass to the right of the keel?

Re: Leak test

Up in the bow you will see a red/brown sealer where the aluminum sheets all come together. You will probably find this stuff has lost its seal. Dig it all out so when you put down your gluvit it can seal this area well, this is the most likely spot for water getting in the keel strip.

Re: Leak test

The pix you posted are weep holes in the keel strip. BlueFin's probably right about rivets holding the 2 halves of the hull together are allowing water to leak into that keel strip.

You want the water to be able to leak out of the keel strip if your boat is ever going to be anywhere w/ freezing temps, so don't plug them up.

Dozer's also right that the bow sealant has lost it's sealing ability.

Yeah I noticed that also looks like the previous owner put a screw through it with some JB weld on top to seal it. I'm not sure if I should attempt to remove it or just let it be :(
I also do see that previous goop looking stuff any special cleaner I should use to remove it or just scrape what I can off? Thank you gentlemen this site has been a huge help so far with everyone's rebuilds as a reference point.

Re: Leak test

Sorry guys its been a while since I've posted but i finally
Got the deck striped from all this sticky glue goop. I have drilled out the rivets and ordered new ones. One question though I have found some solid Core pool noodles I was just wondering what size (diameter) pool noodles I should order? Thanks guys

The pink and/or blue extruded foam board from your big box stores are a better choice.

I wouldn't trust the pool noddles for below the waterline. After cleaning-up our pool playtoys from this summer, our pool noodles were completely waterlogged. I just saw in another thread (piperjoe's) that a different member observed something similar. Maybe not all noodles are the same and some are better than others? :noidea: but why chance it.

Re: Leak test

concur 100%. no noodles below waterline. extruded foam is the only flotation material that no one seems to have ever had water absorption with, so it's the only choice for under floor. noodles up under bow or stern cap or under gunwales is fine since if noodles there are in water, you have bigger problems than them eventually absorbing water to worry about.
