Leak!?!

Okay, all is well. Noise is gone. Well, nearly all is well. It seems there is a leak from the seam between the lower unit and the upper unit (whatever you wanna call it :p ). Anyways, I went to go and drop the LU to see if there was a misplaced gasket, but in doing so, I realized that the 4 large bolts were a little loose, so I called the Mercruiser dealer and he said to try just tightening them, it might seat the gasket better. Well, I did so, and in running the engine you can see water seeping out of the seam. Any ideas? I think I am going to have to drop the LU and check on the seals for the water pump, and the little o-ring for the oil passageway. If it's just a little water leakage, is it something to just let it slide? Just curiouse.... Any other ideas would be most appreciated!

C17:

If water is coming in, chances are it will go in also... Dont take the chance, Pressure test and check the seals... A lower unit is a hell of a lot more than a few seals... I forget to put the O ring in mine, and 2500$ later the Unit was fixed.... Live and learn....

tallman

Re: Leak!?!

Thanks guys,

I just didn't want to have to R & R the LU if I didn't have to. There was no water in the oil when I drained it. Hard to believe one tiny little o-ring (the oil passageway) can be such a *U^**%%&!! pain the arse to get to.

--Chris
