I have been taking on water on recent fishing trips and finally traced the leak to the drain plug housing. I was going to take the housing out and reseal it but discovered corrosion holes in the housing and then decided to replace the housing.
While examining inside the outer 1/4 inch skin and the interior fiberglass skin I discovered the wood around the housing is very wet and soft. As the drain plug area is offset from the transom I don't think I would have a problem in the transom wood, yet.
The boat is a 1982 15.8 ft Hydra Sport with a 80 Mariner on it and is so old
my inclination is to install a new plug that screws on the fiberglass outer skin and use the boat as is until something happens with the transom strength.
Can anyone give me any other recommendations. thanks
