I just purchased a Crestliner 1900 Phantom w/1998 carbed 150 evinrude.(at least it's not a Ficht) anyway when we went to start engine on the muffs it leaked gas out of a couple of the carb vents on top of carbs when bulb was pumped.Engine started but was shut right of since gas continued to leak.I believe some or all of the floats are stuck to the bottom of the bowls or some debris in the needle and seats. I am a mechanic by trade and wonder if spraying some carb cleaner into the vents will free the floats and or clean up the needle/seats.I plan on adding some omc fuel conditioner to tank and running engine to cycle clean fuel/conditioner through the system.Engine and boat have only 85 hours so it has sat unused entirely too much. I realize that rebuilding the carbs is best, but I have had good luck in the past with carb cleaner trick on atvs, motorcycles etc. Just wondering if anyone else has done this with success. Thanks and thanks for a great web site.

Carb cleaner won't hurt, but it sounds like you need to rebuild. I would seriously consider it...if you are running lean you can cause a lot more damage than $20/ea for a carb kit.

.worked on engine today.2 carbs leaking from vents when pressurized with bulb. Tapped on float bowls with stubby snap-on 1" wrench.Problem solved.Engine idled 15 min. on muffs.Seems to be running fine now.All cyl.within 10 deg. f. of each other with infrared thermometer. Better to be lucky than good I guess.
