Hi everybody,
I have a 2008 20HP Merc outboard and I'm having a problem. The only way for the engine to start is to keep the choke pulled out, and having the throttle on the tiller handle at about halfway. As soon as I push the choke in, or return the tiller handle to the "neutral" position, the engine cuts out. Now I've noticed fuel dripping out of the vent hose on the bottom of the accelerator pump. After buying the service manual and doing some research, I have concluded 1) the diaphragm in the accelerator pump is cracked/broken, or 2) the float is stuck, possibly because of the float valve, which is causing the engine to run too rich and die. One more observation. If I push the accelerator plunger down, I can pump fuel out of the vent hose, the one which is leaking fuel in the first place. Any thoughts?
