I have a new 2stroke 4 hp outboard that I just purchased about three weeks ago. I am new to boating and small engines for that matter.
However, I have had it out on my small portable boat a few time with no issues whatsoever. But today while I was out I struck a 2-3" branch that was under the water
Scared the fire out of me, It jumped all over the place. I inspected it closely and I could not see any visible damage to the lower end or the prop, just some chipped paint. And the motor ran fine after that.
But I noticed that after I got home and put the motor up, it was leaking water and gas from the small hole located just above the cavitation plate. I have noticed the water before, just not gas. I visually inspected it again, and still looks great from the outside. I would expect the water, but mind you I have no knowledge as to how the lower end works, and I really don't want to have to learn, at least not right now.
I have to transport the motor on its side, and I always make sure that the gas is off and the breather is closed, because I don't want to flood it and I don't want the van smelling like gas. And so far that has worked well. I put it on the boat and after two pulls she fires right up.
I really hope that this little bit of gas leaking from that hole is normal.
Please Help!
