Well I had a break in my bellows tube and it needed to be repaired. The marina told me the best thing to do was remove both upper and lower units to make it "easier". Everyhting went extremely smooth except for the whole one person install while holding the upper unit and inserting the shaft (that was fun). I can't figure out why it is just doing and "occassional" drip on my driveway maybe about 1/4 of a cup of gear oil overnight? I have had the lower unit off 4 times and I still have this drip that comes from in between the 2 mating surfaces of the upper and lower. I did not see any gasket or gasket maker on either surface so am I missing something. The only thing that I found odd was the Mercruiser gasket kit for the upper housing had the housing gasket, black rubber o-ring for the water hole, and "3" orange o-rings (marina said one was for the end of the axle shaft) and the other 2 were for "different" applications. It has had this leak before so I really can't tell where it might be originating from.

If you are referring to the o-ring that goes inbetween the upper and lower that is about the diameter of the a pencil... then it is there and I even went as far as putting a thin coating of gasket maker on it.
