I just noticed some water bubbling then spraying out of what I assume is the head gasket.....just above the water pump...at top of block....can I just pop off the entire head or do I have to take off the head cover ???............I assume I should not reuse the head bolts............anyone know proper torque and pattern ?????............

Maybe it's the plug from the water jacket there rusted away?

you don't need to take off the head cover, reuse bolts, torque to 225 in lbs, that is inch pounds, not foot pounds. They will break if you try ft lbs :)

torque pattern: start at the middle of the head and go in a spiral pattern outward, until you get them all.

I don't really understand the statement about just above the water pump, the pump is in the lower unit. Are you looking at the thermostat housing? that is at the top of cylinder 1 and has a plug like Mik Dee said
