I have a new merc 25hp stroke, I ran it two weeks ago for the first time. Several days later I noticed a small amount of oil on the floor (several ounces).I then ran it again exactly a week later and again several days later (today) I noticed oil on the floor this time it was a significant amount (probably about 1/4 of a cup). I inspected the lower unit and found oil around the prop and skeg. I have no idea where this oil is coming from and appears to be very black in color. I have gone through the owners manual but nothing is ever mentioned about leaking oil on first usage. My friend suggested it is release of the high ratio 25:1 fuel mixture oil that is used in the breaking in process. I myself have no idea?

Re: Leaking Oil

TXredfish <br />Your friend is right. You will notice some oil dribbleing from around the prop area when using the 25:1 break in mix, although 1/4 cup is alot. You may want to drain the lower unit fluid and check it just to be sure there is no water in it. It could also be that one of the lower unit fill/drain screws are not snugged up. Check those also.
