Leaking remote oil filter line

While trying to get access to the dip stick drain plug for an oil change I found the remote oil line is leaking where the metal line goes into the brass fitting for the rubber part of the hose. It is the upper line as viewed from the port side of the engine. The line screws into the side of the engine block and looks like the easier one to change of the two so I got lucky there. I am looking up the part number and getting the line ordered tonight. Is there anything special I need to know about before pulling this line off? I am going to keep the area as clean as possible and only pull the line when I have the new one ready to put on to reduce the chance of getting dirt or dust into the engine.

It is leaking at the brass fitting that towards the middle of the line and not the brass fitting on the end. I dont think there is anyway i can tighten that up is there?

That's what i was thinking. I ordered it today. 80 dollars for an oil line...it better be gold lined or sprinkled with pixie dust.

I had the same issue with my 5.0’s. My advice would be to change both oil lines while your at it. I changed 1 of the lines 2 seasons ago and sure enough the other went this past summer. I also changed the oil filter adapter o ring and gaskets while I was at it. Fairly easy job if you have access to everything ...

See if you can find a hydraulic shop in your area. They can replace the hose and crimps for less than 80 bucks + tax + shipping.

Some non-national auto parts shops make up hoses.

I think i might have dodged a bullet. I happened to look behind the brass fitting where the line screws into the filter adapter and was it was leaking oil at the brass screw and running down the line where i could not see without a mirror. I think the brass fitting was loose since it was showing more threads than the other line. I was able to cancel the order since it was not ordered by marina yet and get my money back. no returns on special orders once the order has been placed. Hoping this works so I can save that money and a headache replacing it.

Was it loose? It is best to use Tubing Wrenches, no chance of rounding the hexes off. as for the $80 for the hose, much cheaper than the Engine Oil Cooler hoses on 3 of my cars

Ya the brass adapter that screws into the remote oil filter housing was loose and had oil leaking on it.

Brass fittings, precisely bent and flared stainless steel tubing, crimped to oil resistant hose... $80 is cheap!

Throttle cable for my car cost me almost $200 (and that was trade price!)
