Hello,
I have a 2001 5.7 L Volvo Penta with a leaking steering actuator. Very common problem I hear. I got the actuator removed today. 5-star marine in Florida offers a rebuild service for $ 450.00 plus parts. Or I can order the new seal kit for $ 75.00 and do it myself. Has anyone bought this seal kit? How easy or hard is it to install?

Haven't rebuilt an actuator, however have used fivestars rebuild kits on trim cylinders

Once you've gotten the actuator off, the hard work is done. Rebuilding on the bench isn't that bad.

So mine is leaking in the area that says, (Will not repair if leaking from the larger portion of the actuator.) Does anyone have first hand what that means? Do I need to replace the entire unit?
