Hello, I have a question about a leaking water pump on a 78' omc stringer ford 302 is th eengine i believe. It seems when the boat is at an idle water is coming from the water pump, but when engine is at a higher rpm the leaking seems to stop. Does anyone know what could cause this?

Sounds like you have a bad shaft seal. Engine water pumps are a centrifugal pump. At idle, the water will push past the shaft but at higher speeds the water is spun toward the outside of the housing into the impeller, so it wouldn't leak.
Time to change the pump!

I take it this is a pricy $$$ procedure? Any help on where to find a water pump for my particular model?

Ayuh,.........

I Believe you need the Sierra part # 18-3583.....

That's what this Napa parts catalog says anyways........

You should be able to find it right here at iboats.com..........
