Re: leaky head gaske?

Most likely what's leaking is the cylinder head cover gasket, not the head gasket.

c/6
Hooty

very easy to change. and like said above, its the head cover gasket..... just need a 7/16 wrench and a screwdriver and a manual and youll be all set

Re: leaky head gaske?

Hi Guys ! good answers,BUT..What a Word!
This engine has a water cover on the cylinder head?
I thought all OMC heads were made by lost foam casting by... Joe knows the year, maybe. This would mean the head is one piece.Only cover would be thermostat.
I mention this because to me it was a great innovation for OMC to do this. They also did the blocks this way, eliminating several pieces and their gaskets.
DHP

You be right DHP....single piece head. Still easy to change out head gasket. Just be sure the mating surfaces are clean of all old gasket material. Torque the head starting from the center ands spiraling out. I usually do the head torque in three steps. Don't forget to retorque after first run.

Good Luck!
