Leaky valves and latex

Hi all,
Just started reading the forum. I recently purchased a rib for $100. Of course it leaks. It leaks all over. I had to find the owner on the title because the title was signed but never registered by the second owner. Did that but that did not stop the leaks. I patched a couple of wear spots and used some Aqua-seal. Just a lil bit at the recomendation of a inflatable tech in Pompano Beach. Very fair and honest guy. Anyway, I also took the valve bodys out (690 bv) and cleaned them. They were leaking bad. Now they leak, but just a slow bubble shows. Is this normal? Do the caps really help to stop the leak that good? I also want to know if the liquid latex as the one sold in Westmarine is worth using? I still have some issues with the boat holding air. This is an old '94 Rib 10 from Westmarine. Finally, how good is the rubber paint that supposedly vulcanizes itself to the hypalon?

Thanks for reading the long post

Are they Halkey Roberts valve type ? if so, should not lose air at all no matter if valve caps are removed, probably round silicone internal gasket has dried out and does not sit/seal well on internal valve sitting, change for new ones or if possible get new gaskets. If that boat is pvc with 16 years use and leaking through many points, has reached it's glorious life's end, before throwing to the sharks, try liquid latex to patch tiny tube inside holes and outside tube's fabric porosity with sib paint.

Happy Boating

Thanks,
The boat is hypalon. Where can i get the internal gaskets, if at all, for the valves. I did get the caps and they seam to hold in the air pretty good.

Thats good to know. I appreciate it. How about the rubber paint. Will that and the liqiud latex work well together?
Thanks for the info.

Internal gaskets may be hard to find as they come with complete valve, to check, inflate sib to recommended pressure, with cap removed apply soappy water in valve interior, see if air bubbles are leaking, if so, remove valve with tool, while pushing spring downwards, clean plain white o'rings that rests against upper valve seal.

If liqiud latex and exterior paint are good marine quality, should work well.

Happy Boating

Here's to reviving an old thread...

My same valve is leaking through one of the two tiny holes on the perimeter. Can I plug this little hole or is it important?

Another valve is also leaking along the perimeter where it meets the PVC. Can I use sealant/glue or is a valv change in my future?
