Re: led lights on your fishing boat?
Red isn't as effective at maintaining night vision as many think. Plus most people install red lights that are too bright, they do more harm than good. A very low level blue green, with just enough red to eliminate the blind spot is way more effective at preserving night vision, while also allowing you to see details such as chart numbers, gauges, and fishing knots, and allowing you to keep your peripheral vision photoscopic.
A very dim white light works equally well. But has to be dim. If you can see colors, it's too bright and effecting your night vision.
Red lighting can also confuse other traffic on the water as to your current direction of travel. I used to use red until I had a fellow at the dock approach me one night and tell me it was hard to determine my direction of travel.
I would recommend blue or amber. Low level Blue being the preference. If you search amazon for waterproof led strip light, you can get a roll of the color of your choice for about $16. I would also recommend a roll of double sided 3M trim tape to secure them. They come with a sticky back, but the adhesive is sub par in my opinion and comes loose after a short time.
