Blew a trailer tire yesterday. It's not so bad, except the spare is at home in the garage. And the wife is out of town visiting her folks. I'm on the shoulder of I-30 just outside downtown Dallas just at an exit ramp, but there's a concrete barrier about 6 inches on my right to keep me from falling 100 feet, and an exit-only lane of 75 mph traffic whizzing by 6 inches on my left. And I've got my 8yo nephew and the dog in the car. It's only 102º outside - long as the A/C holds out we'll be fine.

So, I called a friend who luckily was there and didn't mind going to the house for the spare and bringing it 40 miles.

And I managed to drive a short distance to find a place to park...in the worst part of Dallas. The A/C started blowing warm, so we found a grassy spot in the shade of a building half a block from the truck. Only 3 or 4 homeless men pushed their grocery carts past us - they didn't do any panhandling - good thing we brought the dog. We had provisions - ice, water & potato chips.

Joe showed up in less than an hour & we were outta there in no time - quite an adventure. The rim looks good - I think it'll be fine.

I guess if you're gonna leave essential safety equipment at home, you gotta at least have a good friend or two.
