Leisurecat 26 Questions

I've had an offer of a 1996 Leisurecat 26 and I have some questions.

The boat is being offered for free (it's family) but it needs some transom repair.

I am still in the process of getting estimates of the repair cost, but I was wondering if this is an unusual problem with these boats.

It has some cracking at the corners of the splash well, and the motor mount area had previously been reinforced with a metal support.
I was not able to really check to see of the transom is rotted, but I was wondering if this is a design issue.

The boat has a 225 Mariner Offshore outboard.

Also does anyone know what a trailer would cost for this boat?
It's currently on a lift in Florida, but I will need a trailer as I will be taking her up to the Delaware Bay.

I wanted a Deckboat or Center Console, and 26 ft is at the upper range of what I wanted, but unless the transom repair and trailer purchase is too expensive, the wife and really like the boat.

Thoughts/comments?

Re: Leisurecat 26 Questions

That's the one, well not the boat in the ad, but that model.
The colors are different, and the one I was offered has a Mariner O/B.

I am just hoping the repair cost doesn't break the bank.

And I hope I can get it in my driveway.....

Any thoughts on the Mariner O/B?

Mariners are the econo-merc's aren't they?

I had an older Merc, and it gave me lots of trouble.
My impression of Mercury is they either run well or not at all.....

My neighbor at the beach in Delaware has a new Glacier Bay, and raves about the ride of the Cat hull. I hope this one will be as nice.

The best part of the offer (besides the offer itself) is that I can get her fixed and leave her in Fla until the spring before I bring her up to Delaware.

In that HP, I would be surprised if the Mariner was in any way different than a Merc.

Oh yeah, Cat hulls ride amazingly well, especially in chop, and turn flat as a pancake. You should be very happy with the ride.
