Well lost another telephone book yesterday. Some one comes in the cove breaks down, another boater trying to help will swing over to my dock and ask to borrow my telephone book. Ultimately the owner with the broke down boat gets it running and takes off with it, never brining it back. Can't say no you can't borrow it but three times since spring is a bit much. Least it's not a tool kit or something. Maybe need to get a lanyard like telephone booths.

Re: Lending stuff

yea free but it's not like they drop them off at your house, it's 28 miles to shag another one. Although the wife has Wal-mart in her speed dial there's a few stores she has to look up... I guess if my boat broke and I got it running there'd be no side trips either... straight to the marina.

Re: Lending stuff

im surprised to read that anyone with the internet keeps a phone book around anymore. 1800free411 is free to use just like regular 411 but you have to listen to a 30 second commercial.

Re: Lending stuff

Lake Gaston is a hair different. First you have to get internet, sounds easy but it's not on many parts of the lake. Top it off if you don't have Verizon leave your cell phone home, your not 411'ing anyone nor will an air card work. Even if you do have Verizon reception is iffy and it's just faster to whoop out the YP. So yup the ol book still has it's use. Unlike cow country we get nadda.

Re: Lending stuff

Next time get a deposit for it so they bring it back. :D

Nothing worse than lending something out and they forget where it came from.

Then ya gotta go askin for it: "ya think it's alright if I get my {blah blah} back since you borrowed it 8 months ago"??

gets me going!!

Re: Lending stuff

Another reason to have a smart phone. I use the phone book to start fires in my burn barrel.

Nothing worse than lending something (permanantly or not) without being asked.

Re: Lending stuff

we still use phone books every day at my house: the 5 year old needs the boost at the table :D

Always use the internet for phone numbers. I take that back: the other day the power went out so I used a phone book to call the electric company.

After having learned the "lending" lesson the hard way many times I have developed this creedo:

Never lend anything that you expect to see again.
